New Year’s Resolutions for Writers

I felt this is a must read

My Author Concierge

Goal_SettingThe new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals. -Melody Beattie

It’s reported that almost half of Americans set New Year’s resolutions, but only 8 percent achieve these goals. There are many reasons for failure:

Lack of planning
Tackling too many changes at once
Adopting others’ resolutions
Making resolutions that are too vague
Making resolutions that aren’t practical/realistic
Making resolutions that are overwhelming
Failing to make these goals a priority
Not committing the necessary resources
Making resolutions that feel punitive
Poor timing
Not emotionally invested in the outcome

While some people completely discourage the idea of making New Year’s resolutions, setting goals is an important skill to develop. Learning how to set realistic goals helps to 1) identify priorities, 2) develop strategic plans, 3) target resources, and 4) evaluate outcomes/efforts.

The Prequel
by Jacqueline M Sinclair
Genre: New Adult Romance

Love finds every generation. So does trouble.

Margaret Wilson is eighteen years old in 1969. The Vietnam War is raging. Her mother is dying and her father is drowning in pain. She is sheltered, religious and completely unprepared to fall in love with William Steele.

William has it all. A product of his family’s legendary reputation, he’s rich, reckless and known for pushing boundaries. He stands up to gossip by upping the ante, one rebellious night at a time.

The reality of his world sweeps away Margaret’s innocence and puts her in the middle of a place she’s never known. With William at her side, she can’t help but question her own boundaries and the temptation to ignore them is running high. Then, one night, one poor decision and Margaret becomes the one with everything to lose.

Will their young love be strong enough to hold it all together?

Jacqueline grew up in the rural southeast and is the youngest child of a large and rowdy family. Reading was an escape when there wasn’t much else around to do. She loves everything from classical literature to true crime and everything in between. With her two children grown and gone, she’s surrounded by a menagerie of adopted pets and a two-legged thief who refused to give her heart back after a night of karaoke.

With a day job and a dream job, her writing is a steamy combination of real life and seeking to answer the age-old question of what would happen if…and then characters come along and completely derail the plan. Letting them have their say provides plenty of sleepless nights and an endless combination of coffee and wine, but she hopes you enjoy their stories.

Books 3 & 4 of The Office Slave series.

Length: 20,000 words

Book 1 & 2

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Opal Carew.

Four irresistible executives. One powerful boss. Can she surrender to her ultimate sexual fantasy?

Sylvia loves to read erotica, and after her latest read, she’s developed a sizzling fantasy about submitting to the sexual whims of four incredibly hot business partners. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she’d have the opportunity to live out her fantasy… until her friend decides to make it happen. Now she’s about to become an office slave to four irresistible executives…

Just when she thinks that her ultimate sexual fantasies have been brought to life, the fifth partner — the boss — intervenes and offers her complete domination.

Can she give up total control to the man behind the voice?

Hi. I’m Opal Carew, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. I write erotic romance for St. Martin’s Press and Samhain Publishing, and I self-publish stories. I also write romance as Amber Carew.

So why do I like writing erotic romance? I like being able to push beyond traditional boundaries. I like dealing with a female character who is growing and evolving – questioning her sexual boundaries and pushing past them. My stories usually include menage a trois. It is great fun to write a heroine choosing between two equally appealing heroes… or more.

These aren’t women who just jump into bed with anyone. They find themselves in an unusual situation – something exciting and erotic – but a situation where they have to push themselves beyond their comfort level. As a result, they grow as a person. So often fear holds us back – of what others will think of us, of what we will think about ourselves – and we don’t follow our hearts. These women push past that fear.

Decadence, freedom and illegal activities…

When Hyde Park socialite Susan Leland meets up with Evan Forrester for the second time, she makes no excuses for their first meeting—an auto accident in which she broke the young artist’s wrist. She finds the handsome Evan both infuriating and intriguing, yet not quite as intriguing as sultry torch singer Holly Winters, a performer at Susan’s favorite supper club.
A chance to make amends…
By posing nude for Evan to paint. When Susan balks, Evan, not wanting to deal with an innocent, sends her away but not before the arrival of his next model, Holly Winters. As Susan’s preparing to leave, the beautiful and talented singer convinces her to come back the next day—so they can pose together.

Will Susan find happiness in the arms of Evan Forrester—or another?

Like most authors, Nancy began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet, which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.
Published in multiple genres, Nancy currently writes for four publishers. She has published twenty-two books in both full-length and novella format. Nancy is currently working on a Valentine’s story for 2016, her next Rock and Roll novella, and a steamy contemporary featuring a sexy, kilt-wearing Scot.
When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy loves spending time with her five grandchildren and looks forward to traveling and reading when time permits. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people.

The Day I’ll Finally Stop Grieving

And This is The Day I Lay me down to Die…

john pavlovitz

tears

“How long has it been? When is he going to get over that grief and move on already?”

I get it.

I know you might be thinking that about me or about someone else these days.

I know you may look at someone you know in mourning and wonder when they’ll snap out of it.

I understand because I use to think that way too.

Okay, maybe at the time I was self-aware enough or guilty enough not to think it quite that explicitly, even in my own head. It might have come in the form of a growing impatience toward someone in mourning or a gradual dismissing of their sadness over time or maybe in my intentionally avoiding them as the days passed. It was subtle to be sure, but I can distinctly remember reaching the place where my compassion for grieving friends had reached its capacity—and it was long before they stopped hurting.

Back then like most people, my mind was operating under…

Nicole S Patrick:
Once upon a time Nicole S Patrick “borrowed” her mother’s romance novels in her early teen years, and from that moment she was thoroughly hooked and lost in the world of romance. Going through college and graduate school didn’t decrease her love of dashing knights, gallant and honorable military officers, and sexy detectives who were strong, yet vulnerable underneath. In fact, it was her coveted outlet from the many hours of practicing my saxophone, playing in ensembles, and writing boring business case studies.

With so many characters floating around in her head for more years than she’ll will admit, she decided it was time to put those characters onto the page. When she stopped working in Corporate America to raise her children and moved to the suburbs, the words started to flow.

She’s a Soldiers Angel and every month (without fail in over three years) she has the pleasure of sending a little bit of home to those troops who are serving overseas. That’s a whole lot of cookies!  She salutes all the men and women in uniform for their service and sacrifices and she thanks them for the inspiration for her stories.

Currently residing in New Jersey – with her own hero – her husband, two wonderful and over-active sons, and a fat cat named Hamlet, she begin her journey to publication.

Inheriting the throne while still a child Adoni always did as the council expected of him. He has watched others fall in love and start a family but was afraid he would never find a person who loved him for something other than his title. With the threat of war looming Adoni does the one thing the council forbids, he tours his realms to unite his people. When Adoni meets Navarah, a mage from the Dark Realms he enters into a love he knows will be forbidden. When Navarah is kidnapped by those who wish war, Adoni must rely on his brother and his Dark army to save the one he loves.

Raised in a small town in the corner of Kansas, Rider’s mother installed a love of books in her. Thanks to her mother she developed a love for all things paranormal at an early age. Her parents always encouraged her to use her imagination and write stories.
When she was 18 she left the small farming community without a stop light and headed for the bright lights of Las Vegas. She continued to write but life kept her from actually publishing anything. After ten years in the big city, Rider decided she wanted a much slower paced life and returned to Kansas.
It was here that she met a friend who loved her stories and encouraged her to submit them.
When not writing Rider loves to read anything she can get her hands on from the Dark taboo erotic books to the lighter Amish romance. She also has an interest in the lost art of pen paling. Putting pen to paper and sharing the good times and the bad through the written word with friends near and far. Rider also loves to travel and while she has been to the tourist attractions she much prefers the hidden gems off the beaten path that few know about. It is these adventures that often find their way into her books.
